Research activities
The Department is active in carrying out research activities. Every year, lecturers and their students, identify research areas/problems to be worked on either by lecturers or students under close supervision of the lecturers. Research activities carried out by the Department of Building Economics include, but are not limited to:
•Evaluation of the level of performance of the construction sector.
•Comparative analysis on the level of performance between the public and the private construction sector in Tanzania.
•Utilization and promotion of the locally produced building materials.
•Low cost materials available for building including construction techniques (Appropriate Technology).
•Updated costs of construction materials
•Average construction rates over time for different building categories.
•Cost planning of different projects.
•Productivity on construction sites (labor productivity, cost of plants and equipment
