Dr.Mbuligwe has academic training in public health engineering, environmental engineering, and management. He is currently at the forefront of the field of integrated water and environmental resources engineering. He has supervised 37 postgraduate students. For International academic collaboration and experience, he has supervised four postgraduate students one enrolled at University of Zimbabwe and three at PAUWES institution (Algeria) and involved in a joint research on climate change with University of Sapienza at Rome. Major research projects involved include; World Bank funded Integrated waste management and resource recovery project centred on biogas technology and coupled to waste treatment technologies. Feasibility of anaerobic digestion of solid waste for biogas production in Dar es Salaam. He has more than 60 journal papers. More than 15 conference papers and five book chapters.
