Dr. Makarius Mdemu is a senior Lecturer in NRM & Assessments and current Director of the Institute of Human Settlements Studies at Ardhi University. He has Doctoral Degree in Agricultural Sciences from the Centre for Development Research at the University of Bonn in Germany. He has Masters and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Sokoine University of Agriculture. He teaches agriculture and development, ecological planning theory, natural resources, climate change, mitigation and adaptation and research methodology to undergraduate and postgraduate students. His current research focus on Transformation of smallholder irrigation into self-and sustaining systems in the Southern Africa funded by ACIAR and increasing the sustainability of urban foodscapes through agri-food entrepreneurship implemented under a collaborative project between ARU and Hasselt University in Belgium with funding from VLIR-UOS programme.
