From July 2023 to April 2024 Prof Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Dickhaut from HafenCity University Hamburg is working as a visiting professor at Ardhi. He is mainly involved in research and lectures related to the topic "Water sensitive urban development in Dar es Salaam", dealing with decentralised approaches to manage stormwater, make it usable and prevent flooding. One piloteprofect at Mburahati Secondary School in Dar es Salaam demonstrates the potentials of this approach and as basis of further research.
With the support of the funding from German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Dar es Salaam City Council (DCC), the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and the HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) he jointly implement the project “Water sensitive urban development in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania”. The project is integrated in activities of the City partnership in between Hamburg and Dar es Salaam.
The three partners are planning to hold the Kick-Off Workshop at Ardhi-University in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, 26th and Friday, 27th October 2023. Among other objectives of the Kick-Off Workshop is to discuss and agree on new tools/maps/processes that are required and useful in the implementation of the Storm Water Management in Dar es Salaam. In addition, is to agree and select one site that the project can be implemented as a pilot in decentralized storm water management.
