Ardhi University (ARU) Signed a Five-Year MoU with Berliner Hochschule Für Technik (BHT)

Ardhi University (ARU) and the Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) in Berlin, Germany, signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding for academic cooperation on July 15, 2026, in Berlin. The MoU was signed by Prof. Evaristo Liwa, Vice Chancellor of ARU, and Dr. Julia Neuhaus, President of BHT.

The agreement establishes a framework for student and staff exchanges at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels between Dar es Salaam and Berlin, along with credit recognition and guaranteed credit transfer for students in geoinformation and environmental studies. It also covers collaborative research, joint proposal development for international funding, and shared intellectual property, with any resulting IP jointly owned by both institutions.

The ARU delegation toured BHT's Hydraulics, Photogrammetry, Geodesy, and Geodata Visualization Laboratories, which support Berlin's urban planning, civil engineering, and climate resilience efforts through spatial measurement, data visualization, and fluid dynamics modeling. The delegation also visited the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Germany, where the Acting Ambassador praised ARU's international engagement and pledged continued support for expanding its academic partnerships in Europe.

Also present were Dr. Deodatus Shayo (Director, ARU Institute of Human Settlements Studies), Dr. Atupelye Komba (Head of Links and International Affairs, ARU), Mr. Albert Nyiti (ARU Research Fellow), and Ms. Olivia Maboko (Assistant to the Vice Chancellor).

The ARU–BHT collaboration began in 2022 through an Erasmus+ exchange under the EAGER Trans-Net framework, hosted by Professors Jürgen Schweikart and Ronny Schomacker of BHT. Following a BHT staff visit to ARU in February 2023, the partnership grew to include three summer schools in Dar es Salaam and eight staff mobility exchanges benefiting over 60 students.
