ARDHI UNIVERSITY

Department of Architecture

Department of Architecture offers one undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch), one master’s programme, Master of Architecture (M. Arch.) and one postgraduate programme Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture (PGD Arch.), PhD. Architecture as well as PhD in Urban Design.

Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch)

i) Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications
Two Principal Passes in any of the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography or Fine Art. In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications
Diploma or FTC in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering, or Civil and Transportation Engineering with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. 

Duration: Five years (10 semesters)

Expected Learning Outcome

Knowledge:
Knowledge in Interpreting ideas and desires of private and government entities into functional buildings and spaces. Knowledge in demonstrating awareness of economic, environmental, structural, ethical, legal and regulatory context of construction industry, locally, regionally and globally.

Skills: 
Select and apply the knowledge, technique, design skills, and modern tools of the discipline to broadly solve design and construction problems. Related to production of comprehensive and legible drawings and necessary documents for use in construction activities.

Competence: 
Possess basic education and qualifications necessary for qualifying for examinations for registration

Master of Architecture (M. Arch.)

Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s degree Second Class Lower or above (Minimum GPA 2.7) in Architecture, or equivalent from a recognized university; OR Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture or equivalent from a recognized university or institution of higher learning (Minimum GPA 3.5)

Duration: 18 months

Expected Learning Outcome

Knowledge: 
Understanding of design and conservation theories that will enable to engage in wider interests, collaborate with public and private sectors in planning human settlement, designing housing development, and manage construction industry

Skills:
Apply creative skills and techniques for devising enhanced appropriate built form for tenable livelihood in sustainable environments, generate dynamic rural and urban settings, that are competitive, innovative, and investment magnets

Competence: 
Demonstrate innovative development approaches and prudent design strategies for rural and urban built environment systems, devise methods for cost effective housing industry and green villages’, towns’, and cities’ expansions; Apply socio-cultural endeavours for realistic and interdisciplinary interventions in urban construction and development

PhD in Architecture by Thesis 

Entry Requirements
Relevant Masters Degree of the Ardhi University or other masters from any recognised Institution of Higher Learning.

Duration: 3 Years Minimum

Expected Learning Outcome

  •  Advance knowledge to comprehend changing scientific paradigms and be able to question various schools of thoughts in his/her area of specialization 
  • Apply appropriate analytic and presentation skills in research undertakings; and
  • Build capacity to analyse and address practical issues.

PhD in Urban Design by Coursework and Dissertation

Entry Requirements
Relevant Masters Degree of the Ardhi University or other masters from any recognised Institution of Higher Learning.

Duration: 4 years

Expected Learning Outcome  

Upon successful completion of the PhD programme, candidates are expected to have acquired knowledge, skills and competence in the following areas:

  • Advance knowledge to comprehend changing scientific paradigms and be able to question various schools of thoughts in his/her area of specialization;
  • Master the fundamentals of philosophical thinking and the logic of reasoning;
  • Be highly competent in carrying out applied/basic research applying well informed and objectively selected scientific principles and methods; 
  • Apply appropriate analytic and presentation skills in research undertakings; and
  • Build capacity to analyse and address practical issues.
