The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Sports, led by the Chairperson, Hon. Husna Sekiboko, has commended the implementation of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project implemented by Ardhi University (ARU), a project that has so far reached 97 %.
Speaking during the visit to the project at ARU main campus held on March 16, 2026, Hon. Sekiboko said the project is a catalyst for economic growth in the country where the government aim to empower young people by ensuring they acquire strategic education that will transform the country's economy in general.
Moreover, the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Prof. Adolf Mkenda, said that HEET Project is a specific directive from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who desires to witness young individuals enhance their skills in the fields of Economics, Environment, Science and Technology.
Presenting a report on the implementation of the project, Ardhi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Evaristo Liwa acknowledged the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for providing ARU with funds for the realization of the project, which will allow ARU to reach its objective of boosting the enrolment from 2,500 to 7,039 students.
Prof. Liwa said that, ARU has constructed four modern buildings which include 7 Laboratories with a capacity to accommodate 758 students, 15 Studio rooms with a capacity to accommodate 1,108 students and 10 workshop facilities with a capacity to accommodate 486 students as well as 26 classrooms that will accommodate 4,604 students at a time.
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is implementing the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project funded by the World bank. The project aimed at revitalizing Tanzania Higher Education by enhancing labour market relevance, improve infrastructure, digitizes learning and strengthen University capacity, contributing to the economic development of the country. ARU has been granted a total of 36.2 billion Shillings for the implementation of the project.
