Tanzanians are urged to learn Japanese to unlock global opportunities. This statement was made on 6th February, 2026, by the Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, His Excellency Mikami Yoichi, during the closure of a three-day short course of Japanese Language and Cultural Experience 2026 held at Ardhi University.
Ambassador Mikami insisted that, though Tanzania is geographically distant from Japan, the two are united by the Indian Ocean, which creates closer business and academic opportunities for Tanzanian citizens. He emphasized that by studying the Japanese language and culture, Tanzanians can easily seize these opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Ardhi University's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Evaristo Liwa, highlighted that ARU and the Embassy of Japan have a long-standing cooperation, one of them being Japan-Monbusho scholarship, which offers scholarships for academic staff and researchers to study in Japan.
Prof. Liwa expressed a commitment to enhancing cultural exchange and collaboration with the Japanese government in order to create more opportunities, such as business prospects.
